About
I have wide-ranging philosophical interests, from moral philosophy, rationality, and reasons to the philosophy of language to quantum computing. And more recently I have also been writing on the emotions. I greatly enjoy collaboration. Much of my work in moral philosophy was in collaboration with my former colleague (now retired) David McNaughton, and my work on the emotions is with my colleague Randy Clarke. I have also collaborated with an applied mathematician, Steve Selesnick (University of Missouri, now retired), in work on quantum logic and computing. I co-edited The Oxford Handbook of Rationality (Oxford University Press 2004) with my colleague Al Mele, and The Routledge Handbook of Translation and Philosophy with Philip Wilson of the University of East Anglia in the UK (Routledge 2019). I recently authored the Cambridge Element entitled Deontology (Cambridge University Press 2023), and I am currently in the process of editing The Oxford Handbook of Deontology. I chaired the department from 2004 to 2022, and still have various administrative roles.
