Congratulations to former doctoral student John Stigall, awarded a National Endowment for the Humanities grant
Congratulations to our former doctoral student, John Stigall, who has been awarded a National Endowment for the Humanities grant for “The Haynes Project: Exhibiting the Historical Significance of the Philosophical Views of American Mathematicians.” The three-year project, co-directed by Nathan Alexander, is focused on Euphemia Haynes, the first African-American woman to receive a Ph.D. in mathematics (Catholic University of America, 1943). The project will create a digital repository of her archive, a traveling exhibition, and teaching materials on the life and work of this pioneering mathematician.
Professor Stigall received his doctorate in philosophy from FSU in 2016. He is currently a lecturer at Howard University.
